Frankly Speaking
This Breathin' Room premieres Brit Sigh's painting series, Frankly Speaking. The 60-minute art experience is both self-healing and a catalyst for dialogue when facing Brit's nostalgic dissent art that is rooted in storytelling, resilience, and vulnerability. Following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in April 1968, Franklin became Charles Schulz's first Black character in the Peanuts comic strip, appearing during a period of intense civil rights turmoil in the United States. Brit's work draws upon Franklin's visual and social legacy to continue bending the moral arc of the universe toward justice.
Productive dialogue among participants is encouraged and guided by a spoken word docent who will also perform poems inspired by Frankly Speaking. The experience culminates in an open and honest conversation with the featured artist, Brit Sigh.
